You could say that Jake Livermore completed his turnaround since some well documented problems, or ‘issues’ as Steve Bruce put it, by not only captaining Hull on Wednesday but scoring the winning goal too to move City to within two-points of the automatic promotion places once more.

Suspended at the start of the season (as we know) Livermore is now back in Bruce’s team, captaining the side in the absence of Michael Dawson, with his goal beating Reading late on.

Bruce, when speaking to Sky Sports, has not only praised his return to the team (with him still working through those issues) he said he was ‘excellent’ on the night with his winning goal against the Royals something he’ll remember, as he doesn’t get many!

‘He’s had his issues. To be fair since he’s been back in the team we’re obviously better for him. He does not score many but he will remember that one I am sure. It’s been a long tough road for him. He still seeks the help which he needs.

‘In the second half, he was excellent because it was a difficult night for us.’

What Bruce wasn’t so happy about was the first half performance, which saw Hull go into the break one-down due to a Nick Blackman goal having been far from good enough.

Second half goals from Abel Hernandez and, of course, the last minute winner from Livermore turned the game around for City but the boss wasn’t happy with another poor first half when City didn’t get going, adding.

‘It’s happened too many times that we haven’t started. It’s crept in in the last month or so. We have to give Reading a bit of credit. I think they have got some excellent players going forward.’
