Midfielder David Meyler has said he backs Hull City to bounce back following defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers in midweek.

Having been on the wrong side of a three two defeat, it was our first loss of the Championship campaign of 2017/18, but Meyler felt we had shown enough so far this year and in the game itself, to be confident that we would get a result against Queens Park Rangers this weekend.

Wolves also brought an end to our Championship unbeaten run of 15 games on home soil which included ten wins.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media in midweek ahead of the trip to Loftus Road, Meyler said there was no need to panic and all the players were focused on bouncing back at the first time of asking.

‘That has to be the plan. From my experience in the Championship, you have to move on quickly after a defeat. The games come thick and fast at this level, especially now we`re in the Carabao Cup as well, so we always have to be focused on the next game, which is at QPR on Saturday. Yes it was disappointing to suffer out first defeat of the season, but no-one here is panicking whatsoever. There were plenty of positives for us to take from the way we performed on Tuesday night.’

Meyler went on to say that he felt we could definitely take the positives from the second half performance against Wolves in particular.

‘Performances like the one we produced against Wolves – especially in the second half – will stand us in good stead. If we can maintain the level of performance we showed in midweek then we`ll be right up there challenging at the top. As I say, we were disappointed to lose to Wolves, but we`ve got a chance to get back to winning ways on Saturday and that is exactly what we want to do. Loftus Road is always a tough place to go. It`s a tight pitch and they will no doubt give us a hard game but, with the ability we`ve got in the squad here, I`m confident we`ve got enough to go there and get the three points.’

Having come on as a substitute in the game, it was Meyler’s third appearance of the year as he continues to bring himself back to full fitness after missing the majority of pre season with a knee injury and the Republic of Ireland international is pleased to be back.

‘Having been out for four months, I`m just trying to get back to a level that allows me to fly around for a full 90 minutes. I`m slowly getting there. I`ve been pleased with the minutes I`ve got under my belt so far, but I`ll be looking to get more at QPR on Saturday, and our Carabao Cup tie away at Doncaster Rovers next week.’
