Next Two Vital

After Millwall managed a last minute winner versus Luton at the weekend, City now sit only six points above the drop zone. City have only managed 38 points so far this season, and the survival target of 52 still looks some way off.

Crewe and Brighton seem all but resigned to relegation, but it now appears to be a battle between Millwall, Sheffield Wednesday, Hull City and Leicester City for the final relegation spot.

City are still to win at home in 2006 and have now won only one of their last seven games (which came in the 3-2 victory of Luton Town.) The next two games could make or break the season.

City’s next opponents are Plymouth Argyle at the KC. Plymouth were once below the Tigers but good form since the Christmas period saw them move safely away from the relegation zone. City managed a win at Home Park early in the season but the game on Saturday is must win.

Not only do they have one must win game but two. A week later, Crewe are the visitors to the KC. Sitting in 24th and looking like certainties for relegation, Crewe is a game that City expect nothing less than a win from.

If City can pick up six points from the next two games then our survival hopes may look less nervy again. The problem of survival will arise if we don’t pick up at least four points from those six. The next three games will be Ipswich (A), Leeds (H) and Sheffield United (A) which looks a daunting set of fixtures.

By the middle of April we should know whether we can sit back and relax for the rest of the season or whether we will be sat on the edge of our seats with a nervous ending to the season unfolding in-front of us.
