Late yesterday afternoon, Hull City confirmed that Tony Pennock had now joined Mike Phelan’s backroom staff.

Pennock moves up from his role as being in charge of the Hull Academy – a job he’s held since 2014 – to now take on the promoted role of first team coach under Phelan.

The appointment is officially until the end of the current season, which is when Phelan’s deal comes to an end.

His promotion through the levels obviously fills the position vacated by Stephen Clemence who made the move to Aston Villa to join up with Steve Bruce.

Jon Beale now moves from his position of Head of Academy Coaching, to become Academy manager in Pennock’s place.
