Head coach Marco Silva pulled no punches as he reflected on the heavy defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Hosting this year’s Premier League runners up at the KCOM Stadium on Sunday for the final day of the campaign, Hull City already knew of course that their future in 2017/18 would again be back in the Championship with relegation confirmed the other week but Silva had called on the players to end a disappointing year on a high ahead of the match.

Losing heavily seven one was certainly not what Silva had been imagining and he wasn’t shy to say that as he spoke with the Official Site in his post game press conference.

Questioning the attitude and commitment of the players in the game, he explained that being three down by half time and then conceding a further four, clearly the players weren’t focused or concentration enough and he couldn’t take many positives from a slightly better start to the second half where Sam Clucas pulled one back.

‘Really bad. We didn`t play. We didn`t have the attitude or commitment that should have been our obligation. We played for the first 15 minutes of the second half and nothing more. The only positive thing from the afternoon was the behaviour of our fans and they didn`t deserve the way the team performed.’

Silva went on to say that obviously with relegation confirmed it had been a difficult week but he was expecting a much better showing that we saw simply from a pride point of view.

‘The last week has been difficult for us. Everybody believed that we could achieve our goal and everybody has worked hard for the last four months, but last weekend we were dead. We needed to react to that, for our pride and for our fans. We didn`t do that. Nobody expected 7-1. I said it would be a dangerous game for us, because you only needed to look at Tottenham`s last result when they scored six at the home of the former champions.’

Adding.

‘They came here not to stop, but to score more. We needed to do everything differently to what we actually did on the day. We didn`t put pressure on Tottenham when they had the ball, and of course without pressure it was easy for them to play because they have a lot of quality in their team.’
