Tigers open with a Win

New Boss Phil Parkinson used the game to give the whole squad a run out with 2 different sides being put out in each half.

Goals from Jon Parkin, Darryl Duffy and new signing Michael Turner in the second half ensured the travelling City faithful went away happy.

Phil Parkinson took the opportunity to look at a couple of trialists during the game, Lloyd Dyer of West Brom & Newcastle’s Martin Brittain.

The first half was very much a case of too much spanish Sangria as the Tigers looked very heavy legged, with not much on show in the way of ideas. It was no surprise when Winterton took the lead after 10 Minutes following a free header from a free kick. City’s best chance of the half came when Fagan was one on one with the keeper who pulled off a fine save.

The second half was much better from City as we looked like a decent team. Michael Turner equalised for the Tigers following a Delaney head down, Parkin made it 2-1 after the Keeper spilled a free Kick and Duffy finished the scoring off with a low curling shot from the left.

All in all a good run out for the Tigers with good games from Turner, Delaney, Fagan & Duffy. The trialists looked good especially Brittain who looked to get to the bye line at every opportunity.

Line Up’s

First Half : Boaz Myhill; Mark Lynch, Alton Thelwell, Sam Collins, Lloyd Dyer; Billy Paynter, Keith Andrews, Stuart Green, Will Atkinson; Craig Fagan, Ben Burgess.

Second Half : Matt Duke; Tom Matthews, Michael Turner, Damien Delaney, Andy Dawson; Martin Brittain, Russell Fry, John Welsh, Stuart Elliott; Darryl Duffy, Jon Parkin.

Next up for the Tigers is the trip to North Ferriby on friday night for the annual Billy Bly trophy game.

” its all about getting match fit at this stage of the season”

Sounding match fit, complete with a goal for two of our major strikers, and a goal for the debutant.

    What more could we want?

I’ve read that the Beast was very overweight – is this true. It sounds like Fagan was the only performer from the first half. What was everyone else up to. I’ve heard these trialists did well, maybe we can pick up some freebies if they play well against improved opposition over the next few weeks

The Beast was carrying a bit of overweight yes, as for the trialists, Brittain was impressive a very tricky winger who was always looking to run at his marker.
