Unexpected Bonus For Luer

Any young aspiring professional footballer wants to get a first-team chance, if they’re a striker they want to get their chance and also get that first goal! This is something Greg Luer has managed on both counts in the opening week of the 2015/16 season!

Having made his Hull debut from the bench in the win against Huddersfield last Saturday Luer was involved again in the Capital One Cup against Accrington, where he grabbed his first senior goal.

This, as he’s told the Official Website, has left him ‘buzzing.’

Luer wasn’t expecting to get his first senior goal for the Tigers at this stage however he, of course, said he’s glad he did with it ‘a great feeling’ when he did at the Crown Ground during the penalty shootout win in the League Cup following a two-two draw with Accrington.

‘I’m buzzing to have scored my first senior goal for the club, I didn’t expect it to come this early but I`m glad it has.

‘I saw the cross come in, got up early and thankfully managed to guide the ball into the back of the net.

‘It was a great feeling – everyone running towards me to celebrate and the fans going mad behind the goal.’

The 20-year-old also took a penalty in that shootout.

He added his ‘legs were shaking a bit’ with it ‘nerve-wracking’ but given he’s a striker, and he would ‘expect to be able to score from 12 yards’ he did just that with him confessing he was more nervous about getting on for his debut in the Championship at the KC Stadium against the Terriers.

From Non League with Burgess Hill Town to the first-team with Hull in a year, it’s not a bad rise is it!

Steve Bruce, as we know, is continuing his efforts to bring in a striker but following his impressive pre-season that brought him into the picture at the start of this season he’s looking for more involvement, adding.

‘I’m happy being around the squad and having made the bench for the first two games of the season.

‘I’m just happy with the way things are going at the moment and hopefully I can continue to progress.’

Among those targets for Bruce remains Andre Gray, but at present a fee can’t be agreed with Brentford, who have turned down three Tigers bids with the Daily Mail reporting we’ll have competition, as we already knew, for him.

A new competitor could be Bristol City? They’ll turn their attentions to him having failed to tempt Dwight Gayle from Crystal Palace, despite agreeing a club record fee, as he wants to join Norwich.

One that would be expected to leave the KC before the transfer window ends is Abel Hernandez, who wants to go to Italy. However Calciomercato.it are saying 9m euros is the asking price for the 25-year-old?

This is putting off Bologna and Torino who have seen offers turned down….
