Hull’s Championship season continued with a win at the KC Stadium against Birmingham on Saturday.

First half goals from Meyler and Hernandez were enough to give Hull a two-nil victory, which saw City move above Birmingham, who had started the day in second but dropped to 6th, to sit behind only leaders Brighton in the table.

Birmingham had threatened to open the scoring with Hull ‘keeper McGregor doing enough to keep out Maghoma, however at the other end Birmingham’s former Man United ‘keeper Kuszczak was also called into action as Clucas threatened.

A midweek goal, in the three-nil win against Ipswich, was followed up when Meyler (36) scored again when he put Hull ahead when he side-footed his conversion from an Elmohamady pass.

This lead was doubled almost immediately as Hernandez (38), who couldn’t add to his tally in midweek, got himself back on the scoresheet when he finished off a Robertson cross just two-minutes later.

Hull were denied a penalty, as a third goal was chased, when Akpom seemed to be forced to the ground with the Arsenal loanee also trying his luck and going close to scoring himself with Clucas making Kuszczak save again.

That third goal, which wasn’t ever needed really, couldn’t come but two was more than enough.

A place in the top two is where Hull want to be at the end of the season, ideally this will be as Champions but as long as City bounce back from relegation last term that’s the priority and what Bruce is charged with achieving….so far so good!
