Yeates Just What We Needed

On loan left winger Mark Yeates impressed against Crystal Palace as he played his first full game for the Tigers on Saturday.

The left winger was a constant threat for the Tigers with his direct running and his corner in the final minute of the game led to Michael Turner’s dramatic late equaliser.

Ryan France had been the preferred man on the left side of the midfield for the majority of the season but never really excelled in a position he was clearly uncomfortable in. Although Yeates is predominantly right footed, he does possess the ability to cross the ball with his left foot, something Ryan France couldn’t do well.

After Stuart Elliott’s fall from grace, Ryan France was our only option but we now have Mark Yeates. The one game that Dean Marney was utilised on the left could be described as a disaster at best. Surprisingly, 7% of readers believe that Mark Yeates is no better than Stuart Elliott. Stuart Elliott is a big reason as to why City are where they are. A man that scored twenty-seven goals in a season doesn’t do it by fluke and he doesn’t become a bad player overnight, it’s just than in over a season, Elliott still fins the Championship a difficult concept.

14% believed that Yeates did okay but wasn’t anything spectacular, but neither was the entire team. The match was even and no-one really stood out, but the little bit of quality that got us the goal came from the right boot of Mark Yeates.

Of course, Mark Yeates will need time to settle in although he should understand Phil Parkinson’s style of play after spending last season with him during a loan spell at Colchester. With that in mind, 21% of you believe it’s too soon to give an opinion on the winger but with City’s next game a fortnight away at Burnley, Parkinson will now have time to work with the players and get us moving in the right direction.

With the competition he faces, it seems Yeates has the perfect opportunity to make the left wing position his own, and his assist on Saturday has already gone some way to establishing his presence in the team.
