4-5-1 ?

Image for 4-5-1 ?

There are rumours circulating today that Peter Taylor will employ a 4-5-1 system for today’s game. If he does, I can’t believe he would be so negative in a home game.

You can’t play a lone striker at home. Parkin will be feeding off scraps for the entire game and will more than likely be isolated for large periods of the game.

Stuart Green is rumoured to start as part of the midfield five. Most likely to have a free role, it will be Green’s job to get forward and support Parkin whenever possible.

Ellison is a suspected doubt with flu so Ryan France will hopefully be recalled to the right of midfield whilst Elliott occupies left midfield.

The defensive line should remain unchanged from the defeat at Cardiff City last Saturday.

I really hope what I have written is wrong because if things don’t work out today there will be a lot of complaints heading Taylor’s way.

I remember Crewe away this season. A game you would expect to win and we turn up playing a 4-5-1 formation, only rescuing the game thanks to a fine strike late on from Billy Paynter.

I just hope we stick with 4-4-2! Please Peter, Please!

You can’t have seen Harry Redknapp’s interview on skysports news this week, he was asked about playing 2 up front against chelsea to which he pointed out that chelsea play with a lone striker and that they could dominate midfield if he decided to play 4-4-2 against their 4-5-1. If Wolves play 4-5-1 then I’m sure Taylor will pick the same, whatever system he goes with I just hope our midfield get it together today because more often than not at home this season they’ve not stamped their authority on the game.

It is a tactic that will work with some teams but our midfield don’t have enough skill to pull it off. Too oftne we isolate our lone striker than suport him because our midfield is too deep. This formation requires the midfield to push forward, so lets hope they do !!
