New boss Phil Parkinson is in the hunt for Spurs reserve winger Mark Yeates. Yeates who was with Parkinson at Colchester last season could well be City’s first major signing of the summer.

Colchester put a clause in Parkinsons release stating that he could’nt buy any Colchester players for 12 months, even though Yeates was at Layer road he was still on Spurs books, so he is exempt from the clause.

Championship rivals Southampton, Norwich and Ipswich are also said to be in the running for the 21 yr old midfielder.

Yeates signed for Spurs as a Trainee in August 2002 and after playing for the youth and reserve teams was loaned out to Brighton in November 2003, he played 9 games for the south coast club before being recalled by spurs towards the end of the season when he made his Premiership debut in May 2004 against Wolves.

The following season he was again loaned out, this time to Swindon where he played 5 times before Spurs once again recalled him. He made a further 3 appearances for the Spurs first team including an F.A Cup tie against Brighton.

At the start of last season he joined Colchester on loan and was a big influence, helping them win promotion to the Championship, and scoring 5 goals along the way.

Yeates who can play on the wing or up front would certainly give City more options and would fit he bill of young players who can be nurtured by the club.

In other transfer news it is reported that Peter Taylor could well be back at the K.C poaching more players, it is rumoured that he is set to make an offer for Northern Ireland international Stuart Elliot.

I can’t help thinking that Colchester have given AP a masterclass in recruitment. We should have put a ‘can’t pinch any players for 12months’ and higher compo in the palace contract for PT. We would not have lost Cort….and we would not be about to lose Elliot and be worrying about Myhill……
