Following the 2-0 win over Ipswich last night Nick Barmby felt that the most pleasing thing about the victory was the way in which the Tigers played.

Barmby and Craig Fagan scored during the second half as City secured their third consecutive home win and lifted themselves into 15th place in the Championship table.

‘We needed that win and the pleasing thing was the performance.’ Barmby said.

‘I’ve said all season that when we play football we look like a good side. We’re good enough to be in this division, we’ve just got to prove it and we did that last night.

‘If we perform like that for the rest of the season, then I think we will be alright.’

As well as a good performance, City also created a number of good chances throughout the game and were perhaps a bit unfortunate to only be level at half time.

‘Things didn’t quite drop for us in the first half but we kept going. We were playing against a good side with a good manager and they play good football. But we also played good football and created a number of chances.’

Barmby gave City the lead on 56 minutes, finishing off a neat move with his fifth goal of the season.

‘It was a very good move. Pricey swung it over to the back post, I headed it down to Francey (Ryan France) who played a little one-two with me and I put it into the corner of the net.

‘It was important that we got that goal and I was pleased with it, but the main thing was that we got a result.’

With 20 minutes remaining, City sealed the win as Fagan netted his second goal in as many games and Barmby believes that the way the side continued to attack after the first goal was pleasing.

‘The good thing was that when we scored the first we didn’t sit back.

‘I think in recent games when we’ve scored, we have tended to be a little bit negative and sat back a bit.

‘Last night we didn’t do that. We kept our shape and we went looking for the second goal, which was pleasing.’

City now face two derby games against Leeds United and Sheffield United and Barmby says that the players can now go into those games full of confidence.

‘The main thing was to beat Ipswich and we did. We can now go into the derby games full of confidence.

‘They’re going to be two tough games and we will be pitting our wits against good sides so it will be a good test for us.

‘I’m looking forward to Leeds because they are an ex-club. I enjoyed my time there but unfortunately it didn’t work out.

‘Elland Road is a great stadium, has a great atmosphere and the fans are fanatical, just like ours are.

‘I have to mention our fans against Ipswich. It was a freezing cold night and they didn’t have to come but they were absolutely brilliant, I can’t speak highly enough of them.

‘They got behind us like they have done all season and hopefully they will continue to do that because they have an important part to play.’
