Bristol City v Hull City

Referee: C PENTON
Assistant Referee’s: C J Berry and A Rodda
Fourth Official: A Matthews

Clive Penton from Sussex will be the man in charge when Hull City travel to Ashton Gate tomorrow afternoon.

Penton, who has officiated 22 games this season, with seven coming in the Coca-Cola Championship has shown 64 yellow cards and one red card this season.

His busiest match this season was the 1-1 draw between Southend United and Yeovil Town when Penton showed five yellow cards and one red card.

Penton has not been in charge of a Hull game for a year since he officiated the match at Selhurst Park between Crystal Palace and Hull City. That match saw Penton issue two yellow cards. Bristol City have to go back to November 2006 to find their last encounter with Clive Penton which came against Leyton Orient in the LDV Vans Trophy, with five yellows shown on the night.

During a year that spanned 29 games for Clive Penton, the ref showed 105 yellow cards and four yellow cards – an average of 3.6 per game.

Sounds like he isn’t shy at getting his cards out, although every game is different of course. I just hope we can get to the end with 11 players and no injuries (and with a least a point of course), but single yellow cards are less of an issue now that the slates are wiped clean.
