Manager Steve Bruce and Sone Aluko have given their thoughts following the two one win over Fulham last night.

Beginning with Bruce, he was speaking to the Official Site following the game, and he explained that first half was certainly the better performance, but he was pleased with our efforts late on in the game as well.

‘In the second half of the first half I thought we played very, very well. Half time came too early for us and after that you have to give Fulham a bit of credit because they played well in the second half. Thankfully we got a second goal and we didn`t give it up.’

Bruce went on to describe the first goal as being ‘great’ both in terms of Robertson’s delivery but also the header from Elmohamady and he had to acknowledge that their leveller was also a very good goal but he felt we made three or four mistakes in the build up to it and those things do cost you in football.

‘Their equaliser was a great finish from Tom but we made three or four mistakes leading up to it. Allan McGregor`s part in it will always be analysed, but Sone gave the ball away in a bad area, Sam Clucas could have cleared it better, and those are the things that cost you. Overall, though, I thought Sone showed the brilliance that we all know he has got. Three years ago he was fantastic in this league so we know he`s capable. He`s that clever one that can make things happen and the goal will do him the world of good. It will give him a bit of confidence. We`ve got the makings of a young side with a few experienced ones in there and for me the young ones can only get better.’

With Aluko getting the winner he was also interviewed after the game and he went on to talk about the importance of home form this year so two wins so far at the KC had left him delighted.

‘It was a big win for us. We know that our home form is going to be very important this season and to win our first two home games is very good. The last time we won promotion our home form was very good and it needs to be the same again this season. If we keep going as we are, we won`t be too far away. It was a good performance in large parts on Wednesday as well so we`re happy.’

With the winner being his first of the new season, that was also a source of delight for him coming on his first start.

‘Every player wants to play and it has been frustrating coming off the bench in the first two league games. I was itching for my chance and I knew I had to play well when it came last night. I managed to create some chances and score a goal, so I`m pleased with how it went. But it was more important that the team got all three points.’

Aluko also said that everyone was looking forward to what will be another tough test against Charlton Athletic this Saturday.

‘Away trips are always tough in this league. Every team is competitive in this division and teams believe that we`re a big scalp and will be looking for a good result against us. But it`s good that we`ve put a marker down and have seven points from a possible nine. The confidence is growing in the team and I think you could see that in the first half on Wednesday when we dictated the game and moved the ball around quickly. It`s also good that we`re starting to find the net again having struggled for goals last season.’
