With two games taking place yesterday against North Ferriby and Harrogate Town as manager Steve Bruce looks to get good match time into the whole squad ahead of our earlier than usual kick off because of Europa qualifying commitments, Bruce took in the Ferriby game and he told the Official Site following time that he was pleased with the workout that we got.

Eight of the starting eleven all got 90 minutes in the game and he explained.

‘Normally I wouldn’t let the majority of the players play the full 90 minutes, but this time round it’s important that they get a full game under their belts in preparation for Europe. Our pre season programme is a little bit shorter this year due to our European commitments and hopefully the three friendlies that we play this week will set us in good stead.’

The scoring at Ferriby was opened by Shane Long who scored from the penalty spot on 51 minutes, and that was cancelled out 11 minutes from time as tiredness really set in.

‘Over the years North Ferriby have always been difficult opposition and they certainly played their part. It’s not about results, it’s about the players getting minutes on the clock and I’m also delighted that everyone came through without any injuries and that was the case in our other game at Harrogate.’

York City and Barnsley next.
