The race for Fraizer Campbell appears to be heating up, but are Hull City first in the queue?

Whilst Campbell is contracted with Hull until the end of the season, today has seen the beginning of speculation regarding his long-term future at Manchester United. According to several national reports, Charlton Athletic have prepared a £2 million bid for the highly rated striker whilst Hull will also be in the hunt should Campbell be allowed to leave Old Trafford.

The striker, who joined initially on a three month loan which was extended until the end of the season in January has scored nine goals in nineteen starts, including one in each of his last three appearances which has yielded five points for the Tigers. Campbell has frightened most Championship defences with his blistering pace, and if the striker can continue to find the back of the net, Hull will have a great chance of making the play-offs come the end of the season. The striker`s goal scoring form has coincided with the return of Jay-Jay Okocha, who has supplied Fraizer with the assists for his last three goals.

Paul Duffen, the City Chairman who spoke recently at North Ferriby United, said that the club would set aside a large slice of Phil Brown`s summer transfer funds to acquire Campbell permanently should he be made available, but ultimately the decision will come down to the player. Campbell wants Premiership football, and Hull`s best chance of keeping the player is to win promotion. However, if they fail in their ambition to get to the top flight, the Tigers will have to rely on his successful loan spell in luring Campbell to the KC Stadium for the start of the 2008/09 season.

Although Charlton Athletic are the only club to have been publicly linked with the Manchester United striker, other Coca-Cola Championship and some Premiership clubs are sure to be tracking the striker`s impressive form as long as he continues to find the back of the net for Hull City.

Come on PD, he’s in the building already so that must give us some advantage here. Just make sure we hang onto the lad, because whatever we pay for him we’ll triple within 2 seasons.

Yes but, with no chance of him leaving until the end of the season, no point in splashing cash just yet. Let’s try to get an agreement with Man U to buy when season has finished.

    Whatever it takes.
