Centre half Michael Dawson has been named Hull City’s Community Champion for the season of 2016/17.

With injuries limiting the 33 year old to only 26 appearances this year, his work for the club in supporting Community projects continued to be consistent across the season and that saw him nominated for the PFA award for his efforts on that front.

PFA Director of Corporate Social Responsibility, John Hudson, told the Official Site.

‘The PFA believes that players who make that extra effort and contribution during the season should be recognised for their support and involvement in the local community. This Award will hopefully raise awareness of the great contribution and importance many of our members attach to their roles off the pitch. We would like to offer our congratulations to this season`s recipient of the 2016/17 Community Champion Award.’

Having received the award for the year, Dawson himself said of the honour and his community efforts.

‘It`s a really great achievement for myself because I love doing work with the community, whether it be at a school, hospital or charities that are in partnership with the football club. I feel honoured to be recognised for the time I spend outside of football in the community.’
