The Tigers hope it will lead into prospects such as the Tigers touring China during pre-season whilst bringing in new sponsorship and players. As part of a three year plan still in its early stages, the plan aims to create financial, sport and educational bonds between Hull and China.

Official from Hull City, as well as the council and Hull College went on a fact finding mission to China earlier this year. The idea was introduced by Hull City assistant manager Colin Murphy.

Murphy said, ‘it is a massive market and the people there are very keen on football. Interest in both the Premiership and Championship is high.’

The club went to China to look at the football development programmes, the possibility of friendly matches being played out there, the coaching of youngsters and the overall market.

Coaching sessions allow the opportunity for players to be attracted to Hull City, and that allows the club to benefit from merchandising sales.

Colin Murphy was involved in a similar ventru five years ago when he was part of the Stockport County staff.

However, Adam Pearson wished to reasure supporters that the main priority remains home grown projects. ‘We have a lot of important aims, including getting into the Premiership as well as expanding the stadium.’

‘China is a huge market commercially, but whether there are any specific material benefits is still to be seen and that is why we sent a delegation.’
