Vital Hull began the search for City’s greatest ever team last week, and after the voting, we can now announce the first player to feature in the team.

The position of goalkeeper was won by Tigers legend Tony Norman as he received 52% of the vote.

Norman won the vote comfortably ahead of second placed Billy Bly who received fourteen percent of the votes, one ahead of Ian McKechnie with thirteen percent.

Tony Norman made a record 226 consecutive appearances during the years of 1983 and 1988. The keeper played for the Tigers a total of 372 times in the league.

Norman was then transfered to Sunderland for £400,000 where he went on to feature in the 1992 F.A Cup Final. The blow of losing Norman to Sunderland was levied but the return of former City legend Billy Whitehurst.

Norman joined the club from Burnley in 1980 and went on to make his debut in February of the same year as Hull City beat Millwall 1-0.

Although Bly and Maddison made more appearances than Norman, the City legend managed to keep 135 clean-sheets during his time at the club, meaning his goals conceded per game stood at 1.24 – well ahead of the two previous names.

During his time at the club, Norman won five international caps for Wales as he competed against Neville Southall for the number one spot in a Welsh shirt.

Tony Norman fully deserves his place in Hull City’s Greatest XI – We now continue the search for the greatest ever XI as well focus our attention to the right-back slot.
