The price of a football ticket is something that has featured prominently in the news in recent weeks. Here, Vital Hull member thedunedan gives us his view.

‘Is football to expensive?’

This question is easy to answer, “is football to expensive?” A simple yes would do the trick but why is this so? The increase has come over time, with more teams increasing the prices each season by a couple of pounds here and there. However, with a few teams starting to realize this, they have vowed to slash prices.

Hull City`s Chairman Adam Pearson has told Hull fans they can expect to see price cuts next season. Prices dropping from around £380 for a season pass to in the region of £300 for certain areas will be sure to ensure fans continue to support the club despite their poor season. Quite simply, more fans will equal more profit for the club. Simple maths indicates that if ticket prices would be cheaper then more people will flock into the stadium and spend money.

If tickets at Hull cost £24 for some areas and they were dropped by maybe £4, it would increase crowds which in turn buy more from the club shops, food stalls and even beer from the ground. In turn this would certainly at the most break even to what we are now. With the higher crowds come the chances of more atmospheres in stadiums to help lift the teams up, something that is often lacking during games at the KC compared to some away venues visited this season.

Hull are not the only ones to be slashing prices Everton have slashed prices by 10%, Chelsea have frozen the ticket prices for next season and Blackburn are slashing their prices. In fairness, clubs now start to see the benefit of support. No one wants to play in an empty stadium so why not give football back to the fans. Make it affordable once again.

Manchester united fans have started to protest about the ticket prices they receive away from home. It seems that they are upset that smaller clubs expect them to pay higher prices than normal to watch their team play. Is this right? The answer is no. How is that giving football back to the fans? Without the fans, football would be nothing. There would be little if any income into clubs and most would find it difficult to survive.

Should football be cheaper, Yes! Simple as.

Yes football is an expensive hobby to follow. I’m appalled by the prices in the Premiership, and unless direct action is taken to curb players wages, I for one wouldn’t want City to be a part of it. I know there is more to club finances than wages, but I couldn’t see us having any chance of living with the big boys if and when we finally reach the promised land.

Yes it is too expensive.Dint Ap say if Hull City get in the preniership he cut the prizes down because we get extra money from tv and sponsers? The wages are just silly and thats why the prizes are.

thats what kind of prompted me to write the article, its appauling that the fans are getting left behind, the man utd situation i mentioned is just wrong. We wouldn’t last with the big boys but the parchute payments would help us.

Cheers for this Gareth. It raises a current issue and it’s good to see our club were one of the instigators in attempting to reduce or at the very minimum “freeze” the prices of football tickets in England.
