Eldin Jakupovic has spoken of his progress last season and said that after signing his new two year deal, he’s hoping to really challenge for the No 1 spot in the coming campaign.

Speaking to the Official Site the stopper said he was delighted to have been able to get out on loan and get some regular first team action under his belt, and he was obviously delighted to have made his Premier League bow, and he couldn’t thank manager Steve Bruce enough for continuing to show faith in him.

‘I’m very happy to have a new contract. I spoke with the manager before the cup final and he told me he would like me to stay. I am thankful for the opportunity and I will continue to give my best.’

Jakupovic goes on to say that last Christmas he has a chat with the gaffer and asked if a loan spell could be arranged and Bruce was more than happy to help arrange that, and knowing Orient from playing against them previously, he thought it was the best club for him to go to and that turned out to be the case with the game time he did get.

‘After coming back here, I was so happy to make my Premier League debut. I didn’t expect it, but the manager told me to be ready for Manchester United. It was a nice feeling. I know Allan McGregor is the number one here, but myself and Steve Harper want to fight for a place. It’s a case of waiting for my chance and when it comes I must try to take it.’

Bruce must certainly have liked what he’s seen so far in training and in the games he has got to have given him this extended deal, so maybe we will see more of him this campaign, especially as hopefully we’ll have a host of European fixtures to contend with as well.
