Shaun Maloney completed his move to Hull, signing a two-year deal recently, and he’s admitted a key factor behind his decision to turn his back on the MLS with Chicago Fire was, in comments carried by the BBC, his desire to continue his international career with Scotland.

When Maloney, formerly of Celtic, Aston Villa and Wigan, left British football for America eight-months ago many might have thought he would end his career in the MLS? That hasn’t proven to be the case for the 32-year-old who should now spent the next couple of years, at least, at the KC Stadium.

Maloney still very much wants to be a part of the Scotland plans under Gordon Strachan, with that in mind he’s confessed the physical demands of jetting back and forth from America was ‘proving difficult’ and in fact more so than he expected.

‘The national team weighed heavily on my mind.

‘It was in March that I noticed that the travel back for the international games was proving more difficult than I thought it was going to be.’

He added there were ‘various reasons’ why he left Chicago, aside from the international ambitions, but ‘a couple of them personal’ with him still having ‘a real desire to achieve something in British football’ and that being with Hull is the obvious aim!

All in all though the attacking midfielder admitted as much as he ‘loved living in Chicago’, and who wouldn’t, ‘the football didn’t work out.’

Playing for Steve Bruce, which he also said was something he wanted, appealed and when the Hull interest was made a move to the Tigers was the move he wanted right away, adding.

‘Once I made it known that I was going to come back, it was two or three weeks ago that Hull showed an interest in me. That’s when a decision had to be made.

‘My mind was made up pretty quickly that I wanted to play for him. Everything is geared up to get the team back into the Premier League.’

Now to do your talking on the pitch Maloney, which previous does suggest you can.

If he, and his teammates of course, offer what they’re capable of that Premier League return he speaks of should be more than possible this season!
