Radio Humberside have reported that the potential loan transfer of Danny Mills has fallen through as the 5p.m deadline approaches.

Phil Brown has little over three hours remaining before he knows the squad available to him that he hopes will be able to achieve Championship survival. Vital Hull had received news on good authority that the signature of Danny Mills was virtually a certainty but it seems the club have pulled out due to questions over his fitness.

Mills hasn`t played since he suffered an injury whilst playing for Hull City during an earlier loan spell. The Man city defender was forced to terminate his loan deal at the KC in order to receive treatment for his injury but it appears that concerns remain over the players recovery and fitness.

Although City still have a further nine days until their next Championship encounter due to this weekend`s England match, the club don`t appear willing to take on the risk of an injured Danny Mills.

Had Mills arrived, Phil brown would have had the difficult choice of deciding which of his back four would be dropped in favour of the Premiership star. Sam Ricketts and Andy Dawson have both performed well in recent games, but would the appearance of a Premiership player force Brown to change his solid looking defensive line? The discussion was one that caused many debates on the Vital Hull forums.

Last week, Phil Brown missed out on the signing of an unknown Premiership defender for reasons not disclosed to the fans and with three hours remaining on deadline day, it appears a transfer deal has once again fallen through. City were active in the loan market last week with the arrival of Liverpool youngster Lee Peltier and it seems City fans will have to make do with this sole loan deal.

With time running out, it would seem unlikely that Phil Brown has enough time remaining in order to negotiate any more transfer deals. There may still be action happening at City as several fringe players may be set to leave the club on loan. Daryl Duffy left the club yesterday as he joined promotion chasing Swansea City until the end of the season.

Not a loss IMO. The back four’s ok, but we need more dynamism in the midfield: Peltier perhaps?!?!
