A fifth defeat in a row, following the two-nil defeat against Stoke, saw Hull drop into the relegation zone for the first time this season.

We’ll be looking for a quick reaction in the hopes of making it the last….

Mike Phelan, when speaking after the match, admitted it was ‘extremely disappointing’ with City nowhere near good enough.

‘We didn’t pass the ball well enough, we were nervous and it didn’t go in our favour.’

There might not have been much that could be done about the opening Stoke goal but a reaction to that was wanted and it didn’t come, once it had Hull had already gone two-down with the match lost.

‘The first goal is exceptional. But we have to look forward. Once we went 2-0 down we changed it a bit to go three at the back and we had more momentum. But the game was drifting away from us.’

Phelan finished by saying he’s looking for us to ‘regroup and rebuild’ and as much as it’ll be a battle to stay in the Premier League this season we’ve got to be better or those chances become all the more difficult.

‘We need to do more. We are not here to lie down and let teams beat us. We have to learn quickly, we are on the back end of a few defeats. We need to regroup and rebuild. We are under no illusions and we shouldn’t be. We are trying, we need to rebuild confidence and set our sights for the battle ahead.’

A League Cup match at Bristol City this week isn’t ideal, this is a match we’ll be expected to win but the Robins are in fine form. A morale boosting win ahead of the match at Watford wouldn’t go amiss!
