Steve Bruce is willing to provide strikers Nick Proschwitz and Matty Fryatt with an opportunity in the Premier League, despite both failing to feature in the eighteen man travelling squad at Chelsea.

George Boyd was included in that squad as City`s only forward thinking option for the season opener at Stamford Bridge with new signings Yannick Sagbo and Danny Graham being handed the striking roles ahead of Matty Fryatt and Nick Proschwitz.

Bruce however does see a future for both at the club, despite receiving some overtures from other clubs. Proschwitz, who was signed for £2.6 million from Padeborn, has courted some passing interest from his homeland whilst today, newspaper reports provide some tentative links between Fryatt and Championship side Barnsley, a fee of £800,000 mentioned for the strikers services. With Fryatt having just twelve months to run on his current contract, a fee of that level could tempt Bruce into selling, especially as he looks to add new striking talent to his side.

Speaking about the omission of Fryatt and Proschwitz from the opening day squad, Bruce told the Hull Daily Mail;

‘There wasn’t a place for Nick or Matty at Chelsea, but there’s no reason why their chances won’t come along in the future.’

Whilst a place on the substitutes bench is perhaps the best they can expect when Norwich visit the KC on Saturday, both could be primed to start in the side that will face Leyton Orient in the second round of the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night.

City`s fifth choice striker, Aaron Mclean, has been informed he is surplus to requirements and will be moved on should an acceptable offer be received. In past weeks, Barnsley have been linked with his signature.
