Hull City produced one of their finest Premier League away performances in recording a 4-0 win at the Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Against a fellow relegation rival, City were able to display their superiority, taking the chances which arose whilst Cardiff were profligate in attack, especially in the opening fifteen minutes when some more composure from the home side may have seen a different result.

Cardiff started brightly enough, Zaha twice causing problems before Kenwyne Jones outmuscled Maynor Figueroa but saw his low effort denied by Allan McGregor. As the home side continued to control possession, it was a misplaced pass intercepted by Jelavic that led to City`s opener. The Croatian; on halfway, strode towards goal, exchanging passed with Long before feigning inside and seeing his effort saved. The rebound fell to Jake Livermore and after playing a side pass, Tom Huddlestone drove the ball low into the net via a deflection from Taylor.

Cardiff were unfortunate to be one down, and even more so when City scored a second as half-time loomed. Jelavic was again the initial architect, releasing Shane Long who ran in behind the Cardiff defence. The former Albion striker waited for support before playing in Jelavic who finished first-time past Marshall from the edge of the area.

With City in control at the break, it was pleasing to see City extend their advantage in the second half rather than being content to defend a lead. A Liam Rosenior cross found Jelavic unmarked as he headed in his second of the game and City`s third before a breakaway from Elmohamady resulted in Jake Livermore side-footing in a fourth from the edge of the area past Marshall.

Jelavic had opportunities for a third but could not take them whilst Cardiff very rarely threatened, their perseverance however nearly rewarded by a swerving Noone shot which McGregor parried away.

With City now onto 30 points, Steve Bruce turns his attention back to the FA Cup and a fifth round replay with Brighton at the KC in order to set-up another reunion with Sunderland for the City manager.
