Hull had a bid of £50,000 earlier last week turned down for the left-back, and they have now made an improved offer of £100,000.

City are on the search for a new left-back after first-team regular Andy Dawson suffered a broken foo against Aston Villa and could be out for up to eight weeks.

Roberts is reported to be showing an interest in the move, which is an encouraging sign for the Tigers.

Roberts has made over 300 appearances for Tranmere since 1999, so has plenty of experience.

Manager Brian Little has said: ‘We are having to monitor the situation on a daily basis. We’ve got to tread very care-fully and deal with it in the right way.

‘I can’t deny Hull are chasing pretty heavy and it would be unfair to try and lead people into thinking Gareth isn’t interested.

‘It’s something we have to sort out in view of the fact that he is out of contract in the summer.’

However, Taylor is unsure about whether the bid will be accepted, and if it isn’t then they will not be making a third offer for the player.
