Peter Taylor has quit as the manager of England’s U21’s in order to concentrate on his club career with Crystal Palace.

Peter Taylor had successfully led the team to the U21 Championship’s in Holland this year but the FA will now be searching for a new man to lead the future England generation forward.

During his three and a half years with the Tigers, Peter Taylor successfully negotiated his time between both the Tigers and England, although he was forced to miss several games during the League 1 and 2 campaigns. Once in the Championship, due to the postponements of games during international weekends, there was no such problem.

The identity of the new coach is expected to be announced before next week’s friendly match at Pride Park against Andorra.

Peter Taylor’s resignation will come as a surprise but his decision may have been influenced due to his team`s poor league position. Although Palace are on a good run having not lost in seven, bottom half of the table league position is something that Simon Jordan wouldn’t have expected.

Despite losing Andy Johnson, Peter Taylor has chosen not to fully reinvest the transfer money and for a team supposedly chasing promotion, his poor league position will have increased the pressure he faces.

The Tigers were the last visitors to Selhurst Park and despite falling behind, Ian Ashbee’s header secured a well deserved point and left many Palace fans bemoaning their managers tactics of defending a lead no matter how long is left on the clock.

After just under four years, we know that ultimately, that just doesn’t work.

So Palace is too much for him to handle as well as the u-21 job then? Looks like he’s got problems. However, its slightly insulting to us, in a way, that we weren’t big enough to stretch him doing both jobs…
