Phil Brown has received a boost ahead of the crucial game against Leeds United be having midfielder John Welsh available for selection.

Welsh has impressed at the Tigers training camp in Portugal and the former Liverpool midfielder is now in the running for a start against Yorkshire rivals Leeds United.

The midfielder has been missing for the last seven weeks with an ankle injury but before that time, he was often left out of the squad under Phil Parkinson. Similar to Peter Taylor, neither manager utilised the midfielder as well as they could have done – but will Phil Brown?

Speaking to the Hull Daily Mail, Brown revealed his thoughts;

‘Of course I’d be tempted to start John against Leeds. He’s an integral part of the team and he gets on very well with the players.’

Phil Brown is also set to welcome back Stephen McPhee after he was forced to limp off during the first-half of the Crystal Palace fixture. Despite having a hamstring injury, the severity is much less than first thought and the player may resume his place in the front three against Leeds on Tuesday night.

David Livermore will again miss a match versus Leeds United due to a clause in his contract after leaving the Yorkshire club only a week after having been signed by them. With a gap in midfield left to fill, we asked you in our latest poll who that should be.

Fifty percent of you voted saying you wanted to see John Welsh back if fit. Ryan France was used in the three man midfield away at Crystal Palace and thirty-one percent of you want to see him keep his place there.

Dean Windass received nineteen percent of the voting but Windass is expected to be utilised in the ‘Nick Barmby role’ as the player faces another six weeks injured after a challenge with a Queens Park Ranger’s player.

Vote on the new poll – will we beat Leeds United?
