Manager Steve Bruce has said he’s delighted to head into the international break with another win under our belts.

A two nil victory over Preston North End yesterday courtesy of goals in each half from Abel Hernandez and Curtis Davies put us into second place in the Championship table, seeing us end August with three wins, one draw and one loss.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, Bruce said it was important that we entered the down period now for a few weeks with another morale boosting win and it of course means we reflect on August with plenty of positives following relegation and transfer insecurity.

‘It`s always nice to win and it was important going into the international break. We`ve been impressive at home. We know there is still a lot to do but I think we are seeing glimpses of the team coming together. It`s going to take time but we will get better. Having a decent start helps. I think the fans can see that we have the makings of a decent squad. This was a good result but we know we can play better. We`ve only conceded one at home so far and defensively, our two centre backs were terrific. I think Preston only had one big chance.’

Bruce went on to credit Preston for the threats they carry and the way they play and he admitted that he knew they’d come to the KC and make life difficult for us, so our goals came at the right time in many ways to stem their flow and momentum and it helped turn the game more comfortably in our favour.

‘Abel has now scored two in a week both from a yard out, one a tap-in and one that`s gone in off his backside. But that is what happens for a goal-scorer – last season he couldn`t buy a goal. I think he`s handling playing in this country better now and I`m still convinced that we have a very, very good player on our hands. I think we would have taken ten points at this stage because we all know how difficult the league is.’

Moses Odubajo was also briefly interviewed at the full time whistle, and he praised his colleagues for putting in a ‘solid Championship’ performance to take all three points.

‘I thought it was a solid Championship performance. At times, you`re not going to be able to play the prettiest football in this division but the result is the most important thing. Credit to Preston because they came here with a game plan but I think our experience pulled us through and the second goal deflated them. It was a game that showed we can hold on when we need to. We slowed things down when we needed to and that is all part of the game, especially against a strong side like Preston.’
