City made 3 changes to the team for the visit to free scoring Watford.

They brought in Maguire in a 3-5-2 setup. Henriksen came into midfield and Hernandez returned to partner Keane upfront as Diomande was suspended.

Watford began like a house on fire when Kabul fired in a shot on 2 minutes which Marshall pushed around the post. From the resulting corner his header struck the bar. Another shot was curled narrowly wide on 4 minutes.

It was all Watford and it appeared City had no midfield to buffer their overworked defence.

Suddenly though things changed and after 20 minutes they fought their way back into the game with some surging runs.

On the half hour Elmo fired a great cross into the box but there was no-one on the end of it.

Amrabat had a great chance for Watford on 41 minutes but completely missed his header.

No changes by either side at halftime. Pereyra had a chance on 50 closely followed by one by Hernandez. It was City’s best move of the game and he should have scored.

Ighalo came into the game on the hour but his shot was charged down.

Mason was the first player to be booked getting a yellow for a foul on 62 minutes. He was closely followed by Clucas who was booked for a clumsy foul on Amrabat.

Watford took off Kabul on 70 minutes bringing on Janmaat. Keane who had worked hard up front for City and looked much better with a strike partner was replaced by Meyler on 70 minutes.

City were finally undone in the 82 minute when a flick on by Pereyra caught Dawson on the thigh and nestled in the net.

City could not muster another attack and the game ended 1-0. They did however introduce Bowen for the last 2 minutes, replacing the anonymous Henriksen.

So a spirited display ended in defeat and despite all the positives it is difficult to see where our next win is coming from.
