Curtis Woodhouse picked up his fifth yellow card of the season in Tuesday nights 3-1 defeat at home to Sheffield United.

It was thought the player would miss the cup game, but instead, Curtis is available for selection in the cup game but will instead miss City’s next league game – against Crystal Palace at the KC Stadium on 14th January.

Woodhouse said: ‘I’m gutted because I’ve only just got back into the squad after missing the last few weeks.

‘It is frustrating because if you look at the tackle, I didn’t even touch the Sheffield player.

‘But that’s football these days. You can’t afford to do anything.

‘I’ll take the ban but it is disappointing. I’ve just got to get my head down, work hard and make sure I get back in the side.

‘I want to be playing because I think I can offer the team something.’

Woodhouse will be glad his bacn doesn’t apply for the cup game. Early on in his career, Curtis played for Birmingham, and would love to feature against their arch-rivals Aston Villa.

He added: ‘I suppose I’ll get some stick after my time at Birmingham but it’s all part of the game.

‘Hopefully, we’ll go through and we could do with a good result – and a good performance.

‘A decent cup run would be great although obviously the league takes priority.

‘We’re better than a lot of teams in the Championship but we can’t just keep saying that. We’ve got to go out and prove it.’

City have a few players who have history with Aston Villa. Apart from Curtis, Craig Fagan also represented Birmingham City early on in his career.

Boaz Myhill was a youth team player at Villa Park before his move to the Tigers for £50,000 just over two years ago.

All players would love to make an impact against Premiership opposition on live t.v coverage, but for those three players there will be a little more incentive.
