Ben Burgess hasn’t had the best of luck with injuries over the past year and a half.

Against Huddersfield in 2004, Ben Burgess suffered a leg injury that kept the striker out for the entire of the side’s League 1 promotion campaign.

The injury carried on over the summer and Burgess finally made his scoring return in the 2-0 home victory over Brighton and Hove Albion early this season.

A run in the team was a welcome sight, but against Southampton the tall striker suffered an injury which has kept him out until now.

However, this past week has seen Ben Burgess return to training. Having trained for the past three days, there has been no reaction to his injury and everything seems right again with the big striker.

Burgess won’t be able to play against Leeds United but is hoping to be back in action for the Tigers before the season ends.

After two lengthy lay-offs, Burgess not only has to prove his fitness but also his worth to the team. After such a sudden rise from League 2 to the Championship, Burgess has little time to show what he can do at this level, otherwise he may find himself shown the door at the end of the season.

Many fans hold Burgess in high regard and would be sad to see him leave, but with so much competition up-front at City, Burgess must prove himself straight away if he wants to stay and compete for places next season.
