Peter Taylor has announced the club are looking to sign a new striker when the transfer window re-opens, and Rochdale’s Grant Holt is a reported target on a list of possibilities being pursued by the Tigers.

Holt has been in impressive form for Rochdale this season, scoring 15 goals and leading the League 2 scoring charts.

However,Rochdale are unlikely to allow their prize asset to leave cheaply, and a Januray move for the player could cost the Tigers as much as a record £400,000.

Rochdale are reported to allow the player to leave, but only if an offer meeting his value to the club is offered. The player is under contract until the end of the 2006 / 07 season, so a move away from Spotland on the cheap is unlikely.

Speculation was first aroused when Taylor went to watch Grimsby v Rochdale at Blundell Park on December 6th, 2005.

Taylor is determined to find a proven goalscorer, and the Carlisle born striker seems to fit the bill. However, Taylor has been reluctant to reveal who his is after.

Taylor said, ‘I suppose this Holt speculation is all because I watched Rochdale play at Grimsby a couple of weeks ago. I am looking to bring in a new striker when the window opens again in January but that is all I’m saying at the moment.’

Being in good form this season, Holt has attracted the attention of League 1 clubs Bristol City and Swansea City. Swansea are looking to Holt as a replacement for Trundle, who could be on the way if a big money move is offered.

Holt is a good front runner and target man, who knows where the goal is. However, Holt is currently serving a three match ban after a sending off in a recent outing at Wycombe Wanderers.
