A mixture of young and old heads lined up for the Pontins cup game against Shrewsbury yesterday.

Notable starts included Andy Dawson making his comeback after injury and first teamers Mark Lynch & John Welsh.

City fell behind after 30 minutes when Dale Williams headed home a Sagi Burton cross from the left.

Brenton Leister nearly got the Tigers back into the game a few minutes later but he was well tackled by Shrewsbury’s Gavin Cadwallader.

Shrewsbury put the game beyond doubt 10 minutes from time when Steve Hogg got on to the end of a Sagi Burton cross and hit a spectacular overhead kick which Cadwallader manged to steer into the City net.

Line Up

: Curtis Aspden, Mark Lynch, Andy Dawson, John Welsh, Matthew Plummer, Michael Byron (Nicky Featherstone), Tom Matthews, Brenton Leister, James McGarry, William Atkinson, James Bennett.

Obviously the plus point for the City faithfull was the return of Andy Dawson who played the full 90 minutes and could well find himself in contention for a place on the bench on Saturday.
